As one of the most premier residential areas in all of Asheville, filled with historic homes bordered by the Grove Park Inn and golf course on tree-lined streets, nothing quite captures the imagination of future homebuyers more than this prime real estate area of the Grove Park Neighborhood. Grove Park Sunset Mountain neighborhood has all the amenities like sidewalks and neighborhood mediums that are not only traffic calmers but also beautiful gardens and floral blooms in any season. Of my 30 years in real estate, no other neighborhood has been asked about by potential buyers more than Grove Park Sunset Mountain.
This neighborhood, designed by E.W. Grove in the early 1900’s, has many historical buildings and homes including but not limited to St. Mary’s Parish, and homes of the Tudor Revival style like the house that was built in 1936 for Edgar Fordtran, Colonial Revival and a Spanish Revival style home built for Ralph Worthington, a home designed by Richard Sharp Smith, and a refined example of a Colonial Revival style house built for William Jennings Bryan.
This area was first developed by E.W. Grove, a St. Louis millionaire pharmacist, as he began buying property in 1904 and giving land to the city for E.W. Grove Park on Charlotte Street. The first phase of his residential Grove Park was platted in 1908 and in 1913 he opened the Grove Park Inn, a sought after resort by anyone visiting Asheville.
This resort and spa is now part of the Omni Hotels throughout the country. With a $25 million transformation, The Omni Grove Park Inn is ready to offer you Southern comforts and modern conveniences whether your tastes lean toward the golf course or expansive spa facilities both for the guests and for locals alike, all within the historic original structure that the Inn is famous for.
There is nothing like taking a visitor and guest to the Grove Park Inn at sunset and viewing the spectacular mountain sunset views from the terrace. This might be the reason that some folks just can’t resist the nearby neighborhood of Sunset Mountain to find their dream home. Adjacent and behind the Grove Park Inn is the Sunset Mountain neighborhood which not only looks to the west for those sunset views but also the views of the thriving downtown and city lights of Asheville, NC. The cityscape views have almost become as popular as those sunset amazing mountain views. Check them out for yourself. This just might be the next neighborhood you want to call your “home in the Mountains”.
