Spring Is In The Air

Now that Spring is here, Asheville is blooming with activities for all ages and interests. Whether you want to go see one of the many garden exhibits, attend local festivals or local art galleries, or spend time doing outdoor activities, Asheville has everything you could dream of.

Beginning on April 1st, the Biltmore Estate will be hosting Biltmore Blooms. Walk the 8,000 acres of grounds and gardens to experience beautiful and exotic plants as they burst with color this season. Enjoy the Flowering Cherry, Red Maple, Kobus Magnolia, Spiraea, Quince, Japanese Pieris, Hyacinths, Snowdrops, Daffodils, and many more Spring surprises on the estate of the largest home in the United States. After walking the gardens, The Biltmore Estate offers dining, wine-tasting, shopping, and historical tours of the mansion to keep you entertained all day!

Furthermore, The North Carolina Arboretum’s gardens begin to bloom this time of year. Placed in one of the most botanically diverse and attractive environmental settings in America, The North Carolina Arboretum has 65 acres of fostered gardens that satisfy the senses. You will have to opportunity to pay tribute to the region’s rich cultural heritage. Strolling through the Arboretum’s gardens is a perfect way to reconnect with nature in a peaceful setting.  The Asheville Botanical Gardens make for another great Spring destination! The Asheville Botanical Gardens are a “10-acre independent, non-profit botanical garden dedicated to the study and promotion of the native plants and habitats of the Southern Appalachians.” It is a beautiful place for a casual stroll with your family that will allow you to return to nature in the most fundamental sense.

Festivals are a critical part of the Asheville culture as well because of how nice the weather is here! This month, we have the annual Asheville Orchid Festival, which is your chance to see hundreds of amazing orchids and watch the competition unfold to see who will take home first place! If that isn’t your cup of tea, we also have the Sweet Treats of the Carolinas Festival coming up on April 20th. This festival will not only have all of the sweetest treats you can imagine, but will also have a donut eating contest, 5k run, half marathon, pageant, crafts, food trucks, and a variety of other vendors. Moreover, the French Broad River Festival is coming May 3-5, and will include some of the best music in the area, camping, vendors, and outdoor events in celebration of the beautiful French Broad River. For a great Spring day activity, take time to stroll between the more than 30 art galleries and studios in Downtown Asheville and the 180+ working artist studios in the River Arts Ditrict. One of the top galleries in town is Grovewood Gallery, adjacent to the historic site of the Grove Park Inn. Experience outdoor sculptures, rotating exhibits, and working artist studios all with a gorgeous view of Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountains! In the River Arts District, The Village Potters Gallery offers a more hands-on experience. Attend workshops hosted by the 6 accomplished resident sculptors while being surrounded by work in all mediums. The final gallery we want to highlight is the Momentum Art Gallery in Downtown Asheville. This exquisite gallery showcases the best of contemporary art, and is comprised of artists work from all over the country, including Western North Carolina!
